Wildology is a food brand you might not have heard of—they’re a smaller line that mostly retails through farm suppliers and midwestern stores. But just because these folks aren’t major players in the game doesn’t mean you should ignore them. Wildology food is a delicious, healthy line of dog food perfect for dogs of all kinds. They also use sustainably sourced ingredients that are often of the highest quality.

Wildology Dog Food Reviewed
Wildology promotes healthy and high-quality recipes for any dog. The company uses a blend of hearty ingredients and is formulated with a patent-pending probiotic blend with superfoods, SUPERLIFE PRO. Wildology aims to create a food that helps with a balance of good bacteria in your dog’s gut.
Who Makes Wildology and Where Is It Produced?
Wildology is owned by Mid-States Distributing LLC. The Wildology line also creates cat food. Wildology is produced in the United States.
Which Type of Dog Is Wildology Best Suited For?
Wildology is ideal for dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes, with healthy, whole-ingredient foods that will power your dog. Various Wildology products are made for dogs of different ages and sizes. It is best for moderately active to active dogs.
Which Type of Dog Might Do Better With a Different Brand?
Wildology is great for most dogs, but dogs with specific dietary needs might need a different brand. Wildology doesn’t create specialty diets or medicated diets, so many dogs with special dietary needs might need a more specific food, like Hill’s Science Diet Kidney Care instead.
Some dogs might also do better on a limited-ingredient diet like Nutro So Simple if they have any allergies or digestive issues.
Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good and Bad)
Each Wildology Dog Food has similar types of ingredients, but recipes vary. Here’s a look at Wildology HIKE’s main ingredients to give you an idea of what goes into it:
Chicken & Chicken Meal
Good dog food starts with healthy meat protein. Wildology Hike uses farm-raised chickens as its main protein source. Chicken meal, the second ingredient, is another healthy ingredient that’s a concentrated, high-protein processed chicken. However, chicken can be an allergen for some dogs, and many other Wildology Recipes use a different protein instead, like salmon or beef.
Whole Grain Brown Rice, Cracked Pearl Barley, and White Rice
These base grains are good options for adding healthy carbs. Whole grains, like whole grain brown rice, are healthier than partial grains like white rice. Although we prefer entirely whole grains, many dog food brands use a mix of whole and partial grains.
Rice is an especially good choice because it is very easy to digest, making it perfect for puppies or dogs with digestive issues. Barley is another healthy grain. There are also two other grains—flaxseed and millet—lower on the list.
Yeast
Moving past the first five ingredients, dried yeast is a controversial ingredient because some dogs have allergy-like reactions to it. However, most dogs will appreciate the added nutrition from yeast.
Chicken Fat and Salmon Oil
Chicken fat and salmon oil add fat to the recipe. Salmon oil is also useful in adding omega-3 fatty acids, nutrients with a variety of health benefits.
Fruits and Vegetables
Wildology foods include lots of fruits and vegetables—dried beet pulp, dried chicory root, kale, pumpkin, blueberries, oranges, and more are among the plants found here. Most of these will be in very small amounts, but they add extra vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients to the food.
Probiotics
This food also includes several dried bacteria fermentation products. These are bacteria shown to be beneficial to your dog’s digestive tract and will help improve gut health.
Other Vitamins and Minerals
The gaps in this food’s nutrition are filled in by fortifying it with lots of other vitamins and minerals, including salt, calcium carbonate, vitamins E, B12, and D3, folic acid, and several others. These will help keep your dog healthy and avoid nutrient deficiencies.
More About Wildology
Wildology Ethics and Sustainability
One of Wildology’s missions is to source ingredients responsibly. Their meat sources are all sustainable and ethical ingredient sources, such as pasture-fed beef, farm-raised chicken, and sustainable-fishery salmon, and they work to make sure that other ingredients come from good sources as well.
Wildology Availability
Although we love Wildology food, one of the drawbacks to this food is that it is less available than many other food brands. Because it isn’t found in most grocery stores or on Amazon or Chewy yet, it can be a bit harder to find a good retailer. We hope that Wildology will be more available in the future.
Wildology Variety
Although Wildology Foods are delicious, this brand doesn’t have a ton of options out there. There are several different recipes tweaked for breed sizes and various ages, as well as several different protein sources, but the recipes don’t vary much from food to food.
That means that unless your dog has an allergy to a specific protein source, switching from one food to another won’t make a huge difference in its digestibility or nutrition.
A Quick Look at Wildology Dog Food

Reviews of the 3 Best Wildology Dog Food Recipes
1. Wildology Hike
Wildology Hike is their most popular dog food and comes in a chicken and brown rice flavor. It is high in protein and fat, with 26% protein and 15% fat, a great number for the average dog. Its main ingredients are chicken, chicken meal, brown rice, barley, and white rice. Chicken and chicken meal are healthy protein sources and these come from sustainable, farm-raised chicken.
Brown rice and barley are healthy, digestible whole grains. White rice is a processed grain that is less healthy and very digestible. This food has several other added nutrients that go above and beyond the AAFCO basic standards, including omega fatty acids, glucosamine, and probiotics. These will help your dog’s skin, coat, joints, and digestive system run smoothly.
- High in healthy protein sources
- Lots of added nutrients
- Delicious added fruits and veggies
- Sustainable meat sourcing
- Contains white rice
- Chicken is a common allergen
2. Wildology Swim
Wildology Swim is a seafood-based dog food that’s a great alternative to chicken if your dog doesn’t like or can’t tolerate poultry. Its first ingredient is sustainably sourced salmon—a healthy and delicious protein source packed with omega fatty acids, DHA, and other great nutrients. Its second source is ocean fish meal. This is a concentrated fish product that is more problematic because the exact species of the fish aren’t listed.
That means it might be using lower-quality fish or changing over time without warning. The main grains are white rice, oatmeal, and brown rice in that order. White rice is a less ideal grain because it is processed and doesn’t have many of the benefits of a whole grain. Oatmeal and brown rice, however, are healthy and full of nutrients.
The next major ingredient is yeast, which is a potential allergen. This food has 26% protein and 15% fat. It also has lots of important vitamins, minerals, and probiotics.
- Sustainably sourced salmon as first ingredient
- Healthy protein and fat balance
- Probiotics and other good ingredients
- Unspecified “ocean fish meal” ingredient
- Primary grain isn’t whole grain
- Yeast is potential allergen
3. Wildology Fetch
Wildology Fetch has a healthy 26% protein and 15% fat, with pasture-raised beef and beef meal as the first two ingredients. These meat products are great sources of healthy proteins and nutrients. The main grains are white rice, oatmeal, and brown rice. Although oatmeal and brown rice are healthy whole grains, we are a little less thrilled about the white rice.
It’s easily digestible but not as nutritionally beneficial as whole grains are. Like other recipes here, this food also contains yeast, a common allergen. It also includes some potato protein. Plant-based proteins aren’t the best for dogs, and high amounts of potatoes have been linked to heart issues. However, this potato protein isn’t in the first five ingredients, so it’s unlikely to have a huge effect on nutrition.
- Sustainably sourced beef as first ingredient
- Healthy protein and fat balance
- Probiotics and other good ingredients
- The main grain is white rice
- Contains yeast, a potential allergen
- Contains small amounts of potato protein

Conclusion
Overall, we have found that Wildology dog foods are healthy, exciting foods with lots of good ingredients that can help dogs stay active. They are great sources of protein and fat and include lots of other great foods, although they do have a few only so-so ingredients.
They have options for a variety of breeds and ages, but they may not be the best choice for dogs with sensitive stomachs or other special dietary needs.
I have read a lot of dog food labels. I have a GSD with a chicken allergy and have had Vets recommend against legumes. Wildology Adore satisfies both these requirements. It's first 2 ingredients are Lamb and beef meal. Although not an inexpensive food it is a less than a lot of other premium foods. So far has been very beneficial for our 2 dogs.
