August 16, 2023 – The FDA has advised dog owners to throw away a certain lot of Darwin’s Natural Pet Products raw dog food as it has tested positive for salmonella.
What You Need to Know About Salmonella Poisoning
If your pet has a Salmonella infection, they may become lethargic and have fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Some less obvious side effects are decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. If your pet has become infected but is still otherwise healthy they can still be carriers of Salmonella and infect other animals or humans. If you know your pet has consumed the recalled product or is experiencing these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
If you have products matching the following description and sell by date you should stop feeding them to your dogs and dispose of them immediately.
Important Message for People Who Handled These Foods
There is a risk to humans from handling these contaminated dog foods, especially if they have not washed their hands after having contact with the products or surfaces exposed to these pet foods.
People infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
People exhibiting these signs after having contact with these dog foods should contact their healthcare providers.
Dog Foods Recalled
The dog food that has been recalled is made by Arrow Reliance Inc. and was manufactured on June 13, 2023.
The recalled dog food weighs 2 lbs and has a white and clear plastic package with a blue label. The affected lot numbers are Lot 9774 – Darwin’s Natural Pet Products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe with Organic Vegetables for Dogs.
What to Do Next
Consumers are advised to destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. If your dog has consumed any of the affected products, monitor them for signs of an upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea.
